Day 62, Gua Musang, Malaysia

On Tuesday morning we arrived in Gua Musang, Malaysia. We step off the train into a mountain jungle city. It was stunning!!! We grabbed some breakfast with Aunty Kim and Uncle PC (whose plantation we stayed on and are close friends of Steven). They took us to Stevens favorite restaurant and I ordered wild boar curry noodles, not something I would normally ever order but it was actually very good!

We arrived at Aunty Kim & Uncle PC's plantation in the middle of the jungle and unpacked. The plantation is a palm tree plantation: coconut, palm oil, rubber, etc. Me and Jenn took some time to do some exploring. Fortunately, we did not have any run ins with any snakes, wild elephants, Malaysian tigers, or wild monkeys (which roam the plantation freely). We made it up to Prayer Mountain which is set up perfectly. It is a spot right in front of a picture perfect scene of mountains and valleys, with large rocks and stone stools to sit on for prayer. It was amazing! Before leaving, we found some "touch me nots" in the grass. Never ever heard of them but when you touch the leaves, they close up. Crazy!

Uncle PC took us around to show us a few neat places. On the way, we saw a huggggge snake crossing the road. Scary! Thank goodness I was inside the car! He took us to an old gold mining community which was neat. We were able to go to the community center which overlooked mountains and a river. There was a suspension bridge that we decided to cross. Very cool! It shook as we walked but we made it back safely!

Before heading back to the plantation, we went to this large bird house. This is a huge money making business in Asia, particularly on Malaysia. They create a perfect atmosphere for birds to make nests so that they can take the nesting material and sell it to be harvested. The white nest they make is made solely of their spit and is apparently very healthy for you. 1 kg can sell for $6,000 rengits (about $2,500 US dollars). Very interesting.

On the way home, we saw a herd of wild monkeys playing in the trees and running. So cool! We cleaned up and headed out to dinner before our impromptu service at Aunty Kim & Uncle PC's church (the only Christian church in Gua Musang- Chinese Presbyterian). Service was nice and very international! We met up with a group of Catholic travelers and they agreed to join us. We had Americans, Singaporean, Chinese, Mexican, English, French, & German all gathering for one purpose: to glorify our great God. How good is He!

The car ride back was fun: watched fireflies in the jungle and talking about Big Foot! I was super intrigued with the fireflies! Never ever seen them before despite growing up in Louisiana. First time for everything!
