This morning started off a little crazy! We grabbed some pastries to eat before class. As we were eating breakfast, two of the guys came in class with two bundles of leaves. I asked them what they were for, and they said they break them apart, and place them throughout the church to ward off roaches. Me and Bliss both look at each other and shudder! They said there is a roach problem here. So when they called us to start class, me and Bliss looked on the ground before getting out of the chair to walk into the classroom. The coast was clear (or so we thought). We put our feet down and as we push the chairs back, a huuuuuuuge (no I am not exaggerating- the roaches here are giants!) roach runs just past both of our feet (no lie, within an inch!) and we both let out the biggest scream and jump in the chair and start screaming like little girls!!! Everyone was killing themselves laughing, but not us. We were petrified!!!! Now I am paranoid I will find them everywhere!
Class went well, again. It took me a little while, but I finally understand the way the classes are working. We are learning how to get people saved, how to mentor them, and watch them grow into strong believers (hence the missionary internship- how to use this knowledge we are learning when we get people saved on the mission field, or any place really). We are taking them to the beginning, for those who have never even heard the name of Jesus before. Though this is all information I know, it is ministering to me so much re-learning it all and hearing things from a different perspective. Incredible books we have that Steven made and has tweaked over the years!
After class, we stayed around. They were having a youth hangout and watching a movie. It was fun interacting with the youth who came. They especially got a kick out of telling us their names (in Chinese of course) and having us try and pronounce them properly. Harder than it sounds! It was quite a challenge, and the kids were loving it!
After that, we went to a bible study at George & Valerie Phillips home. Beautiful home, sweet people. They prepared an amazing meal for us all to eat beforehand. About 6 different options. Since George is Indian, and Valerie is Chinese, they had food from both backgrounds. The Spirit hit, and we ended up just doing praise and worship all night instead of the bible study as planned. But I didn't mind, when the Spirit moves, you must yield to it. After, they prepared pancakes for us to take home and eat tomorrow morning. How sweet!!! After walking, train, bus, walking we finally made it home just before midnight!
Just a few of the dishes from supper: chicken curry, sautéed okra, and avocado-tomato-cheese sandwiches.
